Many years ago when I was in my late teens and early twenties, things were seemingly tough, When I reached the point where the tears ran down my face, I’d throw my arms up in the air and scream THAT’S IT, I AM DONE, FORGET IT I CAN’T DO THIS!! I remember what David would say...
David, my older brother, would put his arms around me, pick me up spinning me around while kissing me on the neck and when my feet were back on the ground he would look at me, smile and say to me when things get tough you just have to pull your boots up by the straps and wade through the shit, because that is the only way to the other side.
Like most of us, I have learned over the years that tough times come and go and yes, if we pull our boots up by the straps there are many happy times in between.
I am not entirely sure why, but this poem reminds of me David.
Thanks Dave for the bit of life we got to share, You are always in my heart!
DO IT ANYWAY
People are often unreasonable, illogical,
and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, People may accuse you
of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some
false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone
could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis,
it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway
